They ate a lot of fish together everyday. They ate very greedily. So, the population of the fish and shrimps  decreased quickly.

Baya and Sura were often hungry. They often fought over the food. They forgot their friendship. Baya and Sura were equally very strong. None of them won the fight. Realizing this, they became reconciled. They want to live in peace and harmony as before.

Baya and Sura agreed to divide the river into two. Then, they made a border using mud and sand. Baya lived upstream and Sura lived downstream. They looked for foods in their own areas. They did not fight over the food anymore.

The dry season came. There was no water anymore in the downstream. But there was still enough water in the upstream. So, Sura entered upstream to look food. However, Baya got angry to see Sura look for food in his area. Sura explained that he could not lved in downstream because there was no water in there. Baya did not care. He asked Sura to leave his area.

Knowing this, Baya and Sura fought again. None of them won the fight. They were equally strong. A lot of people came to the bank of the river. They saw the fight. Finally, Baya and Sura died. An old man talked to people. This event we see today is rare. So, to remember this event, I name this place after two animals, that is Surabaya.

Should the School Held Student Farewell Party with Band Performance

Recently at Manchester School, year six are having a discussion on whether the school should or shouldn't have a band at the Student Farewell Party.

Many people believe that it costs a lot of money to have a band at the farewell. The neighbor living nearby might complain about the noise that the band makes. The band might take a lot of  room so there is not enough room for the children to have an enjoyable night.

At the same time, many people believe that if there is no band performance at the farewell, it wouldn't be as much fun and less people would attend the farewell party. With the band, it will be it will be entertaining for a lot of people and at the same time play clearer and louder music.

Although there are few reasons for not having band performance at the farewell party, I hope  I have convinced you that the school should held the student farewell party with band performance.

Guess what happened on the way to school this morning? I couldn't believe it! This street preacher almost got killed.

I am on the bus coming down Orchid Street, late as usual, and this little bloke just steps in front of the oncoming traffic at the lights. He starts shouting at all the drivers about the end of the world and being prepared to meet their maker and so on. Then all the cars start honking and people are yelling "Get off the road!" But no, the bloke just keep walking up and down inside these placard things telling everyone to repent and prepare fotr the end of the world.

It was really amazing.

Well, he isn't looking and suddenly this cyclist comes racing between the kerb and the bus and ploughs straight into him. the little man lies there all tangled up in his placards and I am thinking "oh no, he's dead." Then suddenly he sits up and brushes himself off and starts again, walking up and down and raving. I think the police must have taken him off after that.

I mean he was really mad but how's that for commitment?

Living on Aboriginal Reserves in the Past

It happened quite a lot - any time that white people would come to the place, the word would get straight around  "Lookout, here's the welfare or Look out, here's the police; and immediately we'd head bush.

They were always treated with suspicion because of the days not too long before, when I was a kid, when they'd just come there and take the kids away.

Mom used to tell me what used to happen, you know and whose kids were taken and where they went to.

It was a fear that was maintained and it's a fear maintained for most aboriginal people today. The suspicion of white people and their authority. The reason is due to white people just come into the mission and just stood over people, took kids away and laid their own law down.
